Decorated Hamata \"buttons\".... - Magnus - 02-24-2011 Have there been any finds of hamata buttons (the ones that the clasps attach to, and the others) that are decorated, that we know were part of a hamata? Or are they all plain? Re: Decorated Hamata \"buttons\".... - Gaius Decius Aquilius - 02-24-2011 This does not answer the question. There are "apron studs" form a Flavian context found in Spain. The subject of one was a chariot scene, the other what is probably a portrait of Domitian. Maybe. JRMES, Vol. 9, 1998. Does not prove anything, since the finds were out of context. Conceptually it is possible. Maybe nothing else. Ralph Re: Decorated Hamata \"buttons\".... - Magnus - 02-24-2011 I figured as much...didn't think it would be an easy question to answer. :? Re: Decorated Hamata \"buttons\".... - PhilusEstilius - 02-25-2011 I don't know of any that have been found however when we look at many of the decorated Hamata hooks it may well be that there could have been such studs. Re: Decorated Hamata \"buttons\".... - Celer - 02-26-2011 Salve The complete set of hamata hooks and studs from Hod Hill, now in the British Museum have fluted cone-shaped buttons, not the usually portrayed flat plain ones. No photos I'm afraid, but they're in the Romano-British room in the display case along with the Fulham sword and the Hod Hill dagger and scabbard. Vale Celer. |
