Found during the Athens Metro and exibited in the Aehaleo station.

Looks to me more like the American WWII-Korean war era "jeep cap" (think Radar O'Reilley on M.A.S.H.)
It was intended to be worn under the helmet, so maybe this is the ever-elusive padding worn under a Corinthian helmet.
