National Junior Classical League Convention - cacrispvs - 06-16-2011

Hi all,

We were just contacted by the organizer for the National Junior Classical League Convention. He wanted to know if Legio XI could travel up to attend. But since it is in eastern Kentucky and we are in Atlanta, with this short of a notice we couldn't make it work as a group effort. I informed the organizer that I would put out the word to see if others in the area could attend.

Location : Richmond, KY
Dates : July 25-30

We regularly attend the Georgia Junior Classical League convention each year and consider it one of our best events. We are continually amazed at the knowledge and talent displayed by the young folks who attend.I would urge anyone who can make it to attend one of these events.

The National convention will be here in Atlanta in either '12 or '13. We plan to put on a big display at that event.

I am interested to hear you're doing the Ga JCL and talking about the
national convention. Legio XX is doing the Virginia JCL in November in Richmond
and I was wondering how many other groups do JCLs around the country, or even if
they knew about them. We are also doing for the first time the Va Governor's
academy, which is apparently the top state Latin students. Seems to me we would
all benefit if the JCL organizers knew more about Roman reenactors in general,
including civilians and Celts, early and late Romans. In our case
the VJCL reimburses expenses, and that may be something the national people
could address as well. For all of us it would be good to have coverage from
other groups in case it was not practical for distance or time reasons.

I don't know if the VI in Ca or the III in Mass do JCLs, for example, but it is
a national opportunity to demo in front of hundreds of highly motivated
students, as we discovered when chaperoning for our daughter's Latin students at JCL last year in Richmond.
