Weight of Roman armour question - Anonymous - 01-19-2005

Are there any re-enactors (?) around who can tell me the weight of Roman armour/kit? I don't want to specify a period to limit the field. I did try a set on in Chester once, and felt invincible - but they may have been too light.
While most think the segmentata weighs in at around 15 pounds, ours are all the cold rolled steel. I don't know if hand hammered iron would weigh more/less?
The butted round-wire ring hamatas at about 25 pounds are apparently much heavier than Roman hamata, that is, the butted flat rings similar to Eric Schmidt's reconstructions. Those may be 1/2 the weight.
Total weight can be from 25-40 pounds exclusive of pack equipment, which adds 30 pounds?
Legio XX
