Well, that seems basically as a bunch of ostrich feathers set into the crestholder. Not such a big deal, I would say.

They are in fact also similar to the ones shown in my avatar on a cavalry sport helmet I made some years ago.

My friemd Matthew Bryant, who was a participant visitor there (and had a great time) made a feather crest for his gladiator crest by tying a stip of leather to the top with holes in it to take his feathers, this way it was highly striking and very detatchable for training.
Others cut a piece of wood that follows the shape of the crest
others, as suggested above, drill holes to take them
examples are known of crests that are specifically open at the top to hold a crest box.

I found that the simplest way to do a feather crest was to cut a piece of wood to shape and then drill holes for the feathers, which can then be glued into it. Here's mine:

I hadn't heard about the leather method before. How well does it work?

Very nice crest.

What exotic fauna did those feathers belong to originally Crispvs?

Nothing more exciting than twenty or so female mallard ducks I am afraid, frater Peronis. The coloured wing feathers have an iridescent blue/green/purple hue on one side and white tips so I thought they might do well for the purpose.
