How historical correct is this gladius? - heenkee - 06-28-2012 Please let me know. Regards. Re: How historical correct is this gladius? - Gaius Julius Caesar - 06-28-2012 I would avoid it, myself! Re: How historical correct is this gladius? - 66kbm - 06-28-2012 That looks like 2 different ones to me Kevin Re: How historical correct is this gladius? - Dan D'Silva - 06-28-2012 I don't know much about Roman stuff, but Legio XX says that gladii shouldn't have ricassos; also that the guard plate was usually inset into the guard, although it doesn't need to be. Who makes this model? Do they give specifications (materials, dimensions)? Re: How historical correct is this gladius? - Gaius Colletti - 06-28-2012 It looks similar to the old style SOTW Gladius. Ricasso is incorrect, but not the worst thing in the world. I don't know where the brass accents on the hilt come from, but they could probably be removed. What are the blade dimensions? Re: How historical correct is this gladius? - jvrjenivs - 06-28-2012 It's not the worst blade around but needs a lot of rework to get usable. The brass decorations on the handle should be removed as well as some parts on the scabbard. Better get yourself a improved SOTW or Deepeeka gladius. Re: How historical correct is this gladius? - heenkee - 06-28-2012 Stats: total lenght: 74 cm Blade: 53 cm Weight: 1,1 kg Re: How historical correct is this gladius? - Gaius Colletti - 06-29-2012 Hmm, that is a a bit wide, long, and heavy for a Pompeii-style gladius |
