Auxiliary question circa 150AD - cstoesen - 12-11-2013

Around 150ad, would Auxillia Cohorts have been equipped with a Scorpio for each centuria as the regular legions? I am interested in the cohors Equitata type formations in Germania along the limes such as the Cohors II Raetorum Equitata Civium Romanorum at Saalburg. Can't find any information about what artillery they may have been issued.

Thanks.

Unlikely. Artillery seems to have been allocated to non-legionary troops on a limited case-by-case basis, as far as I can tell.

Thank you.

What about troops in a Cohort Castle near the limes. Would there be an artillery allocation for the fort itself or were the Auxilia typically just not supplied that way?
