I keep reading about a herringbone weave but at Vindolanda 62% of the textiles were a diamond weave. How far apart are the points of the v's in the herringbone weave? <p></p><i></i>

I cannot tell it in general but here goes a pic. To the left is a fragment of Fourth century AD Roman herringbone twill from Deurne (NL). To the right is a modern replica of diamond twill based on the Thorsberg (DE) finds (the count of threads is higher on the real textile, though )<br>

My new tunic is an unbleached herringbone weave, and is not far off the scale of the originals. I'll post up a piccie of that and my herringbone weave waistband next week. I've also got some images of some of the reconstructed herringbone/diamond twill textiles from the drenthe museum, i'll see if i can find them... <p></p><i></i>
