Map of Roman army themed museums, sites - richsc - 11-28-2015 Updating my work in progress. This is a google map of all the museums and sites with Roman army themes and artifacts. It also includes Celtic, Etruscan, Carthaginian, naval, and some specific others. Just added a bunch of suggestions from FB, including a number in the Balkans, though I am not sure what they have in their collections as they don't have English options. Suggestions welcome. I seem to be lacking for France, for example. https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=zu09zh40zouE.k8kEZpE6GkFI RE: Map of Roman army themed museums, sites - Alexandr K - 11-28-2015 Hello Richard, Great project! Thank you. I would suggest two more sites: 1) Gerulata in Bratislava-Rusovce (Slovakia). There was a Roman fort. Now some remains are visible and there is a small museum. https://goo.gl/maps/2Le8Ho3Pbfy 2) In Mikulov (Czech Republic) there is a small museum with artefacts from archaeological excavations of the site of a Roman base at Mušov-Hradisko (or Burgstall) from the Marcomannic wars. http://www.rmm.cz/english/index.html https://goo.gl/maps/aT3J9ZEFAY62 Kind regards, Alexandr RE: Map of Roman army themed museums, sites - richsc - 01-17-2016 I have just added the Pisa Museum of Ships to the map. Descriptions say it is a 'work in progress'. Anyone been there lately to give an update? And, it is said to have the most complete ancient Roman boat anywhere. Any photos of that? Also have the Wroxeter Roman vinyard, though I am not sure if they are actually growing Roman era varietals or just like the name for tourists. |
