we might find out what ingredients Garum had - Gunthamund Hasding - 12-14-2015

Resting at a depth of more than 650 feet in the waters off the Ligurian coast near Alassio, the vessel is estimated to be 98 feet long and dates between the first and the second century A.D.

Italian archaeologists have discovered the wreck of a Roman ship laden with thousands of jars containing the ketchup of the ancient Romans — a pungent, fish-based seasoning known as garum.

Interesting. Big Grin

The article mentions garum was produced in Spain and Portugal. If so, then its Major ingredient would be anchovies. Probably spiced-up a bit or even allowed to decompose to the "correct" flavor. Wink

Is 650 feet really astonishing? The Black Sea is even deeper. Cool

well 220 m is about 22 bar give or take, you can't dive so deep without special equipment so I think that is still quite a depth, I know about larger depths for different wreck sites but this one will not be easy to dig

Those guys were probably using helium as their air mixture. I think helium is correct, not just standard compressed air. :-)
