Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Robert Vermaat - 10-25-2010

Hi Nick,
Quote:Since I am only 12, I am officially not allowed to carry a blade. Law here says, I have to be 16. But in theme parcs, I can go in full dress.
Should your group ever come to the Netherlands, I would be priveledged to march with you and yours, Sir.
If you live in the Netherlands, you'll have to wait until you are 18 before you can.

That is, outside a theme park or indeed any location where you have been invited to by an organiser. Because without it, you're officially prohibited from carrying any category 4 weapon even when you're an adult.

This is my son Jeroen, who turned 10 last week, with waht he can carry without any problems:

And this is what would happen is he would be caught with a weapon: Big Grin

Robert, don't make promises you know you can't keep.
Welll.

1) I can't think of any more places where I could add more armour (left arm is not an option)
2) there's my back and legs to think of, and my old age (I'm 46).

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Paul Elliott - 10-25-2010

You know you want some Dura-style cavalryman's thigh guards!!!!

Yes, that`s a "must"! Of course the toes could also be protected by some etruscan type feet armour...

I'm an infantryman, no need for thigh guards gents. 8)

But that foot armour, that's a good one - why did Roman infantry not have any foot protection?

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - John Conyard - 10-25-2010

For thigh guards you need a horse. Big Grin

Yes ... I can vouch for the vulnerability of leather shoes. If the arrow can't hit anything else because its armoured or you are advancing toward the enemy behind a shield, it will inevitably veer off like a heat-seeking missile, ignore your metal greaves, and go straight for the soft leather shoe!

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - John Conyard - 10-25-2010

That's because you held your shield badly Big Grin

Alas. There is no armor for that. Sigh. Cry

The armour of an honest spirit and clear mind!

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Ammianus - 10-25-2010

The best birthday present ever!
My parents got Graham Sumner to paint a picture of me riding Murph for my 21st.
It sums up my last year of re-enactment with Comitatus, and I'm very proud of it, although slightly embarrased!

I love the detail and it is a lovely image of my kit and of me doing my favourite thing Big Grin
(Sorry the image isn't very high quality!)
