I basically hate marching when it's hot! But on a cool day it can be quite nice:

(I'm the guy on the right - the one with the rectangular scutum)

My new tunic (have it since summer 2005) is made from wool (herringbone), but the fabric is rather thin and breathable and is ok also for a warm day.

Winter legionary march of the legio VIIII Hispana at Madrid

Salvete Omnes

Now I will post my photos in the rigth sites of reenactment.

In the legio VIIII Hispana we reenactment the roman legion of the 50 BC - 0.

More legionaries

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Commilito - 03-14-2006

wow, it looks great!

Really nice Caesarean era impression. It's nice to see people doing a not-very-popular era to reenact. Nice bracae too!

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Flavius Promotus - 03-14-2006

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Robert Vermaat - 03-14-2006

As I promised to Vortigern, my new shield:

The shield is based on Notitia Dignitatum's Comes Hispenias' Vesontes Legio Comitatensis plus some artistic additions made by my Mum (the lions and the medusa).

P.S. I hate to appear smiling!!

Why? I makes you loveable!
No kidding, that shield looks cool! Can we see a close-up of the back - those Medusas look great!

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - FAVENTIANVS - 03-20-2006

The problem is that I have no digital camera, those pics are from a friend in the public who send'em to us. So I'll call Tibisius to come home and take some closer pics. The medusa is copied from a Montvert book Seleucid shield.

So you liked it Robert?

Don't make me blush! I think we should stay friends... by now

I feel almost embarrased to post my picture here.

It's not much...but given a 16-year old's wage, its a lot for me. Anyways I'm workin on my mid 3rd century soldier's costume. Legio II Parthica of course. Next step...linen leg wraps!!

Sean excellent work. I am currently in San Diego and am available if you need assistance with your kit.

Also Theo from Nocal is looking for other late romans who will attend this Julys Ft Mac Arthur Days. I won't be able to make it but I plan on making the October event. Let me know if you are interested in these events.
