Roman army & gladiator padding - Tor GD - 03-08-2018
I'm having quite a bit of trouble understanding what padding gladiators wore under their armor. You have the fascia, which I understand is a type of wrapping some wore under their greaves, which also were a type of protection in itself?
Others seems to have worn other types of textile armor covering whole legs and arms (at least according to this site: http://www.ancientempiresreproductions.com/AER/Thraex.html ). I would confuse these textile wrappings with textile manica and longer fascia, but these are separate things, right?
And then I've come across gaiters, which seems to be a completely separate thing.
Lastly, we have the roman army, which used subarmalis under their lorica. When they were wearing manica or greaves, what padding would they be wearing under that? I hope this mess makes sense.
