Xanten anyone? - richsc - 06-30-2003 The reporting on Xanten always seems to be military or gladitorial. If anyone attended, what was the civilian side like?

Re: Xanten anyone? - venicone - 07-01-2003 fraid i havent been to this event - like you I havent seen anything reported on the civilian side

Talking History Forum
Re: Xanten anyone? - Praefectusclassis - 07-01-2003 Rich, my Xanten travelogue will be divided in the three parts the event was divided in: Bread(civ), Swords(mil) and Games(glad). I even took pictures of the civilians (huh?! Yeah!). Not too many though (not dozens and dozens as for the military and gladiators) but sufficient for a nice overview I hope. I tried to pay special attention to the 'buildings' they brought along.

Civilian part of the Xanten travelogue added here.
Greets

Jasper
Edited by: Jasper Oorthuys at: 7/6/03 12:55 pm
Re: Xanten anyone? - richsc - 07-06-2003 Great photos Jasper. The Roman Glassmakers from the UK are the ones in the photos; I have a few that are in that photo.

Forum Traiani is the German group from whom I've bought a few things for our displays.

I am still wondering where all the amphora come from. You just can't buy those over here at all, and that's one of my 'to do' projects, producing amphora.

I'll be rebuilding our caupona and I think I'll try my hand at some of the more elaborate Pompeian figures and snakes.

Re: Xanten anyone? - Praefectusclassis - 07-06-2003 I know that the Forum Traiani is a German group. Just a lame attempt at a joke, referring to the real Forum Traiani in Rome which is a rather big complex.

--edit: lame attempt at a joke, not meant as a snide comment on this group!--
Greets

Jasper
Edited by: Jasper Oorthuys at: 7/9/03 2:02 am
Re: Xanten anyone? - richsc - 07-08-2003 Yes, well some of call ourselves a legion and we're usually not much more than a contubernium...

|
