Hamata Shoulder Doubling - bkunka - 03-24-2020

I'm working on a Lorica Hamata, all handmade rings (riveted & punched). The time period is probably limited to Augustan-late first century since I took the liberty of adding clavi in bronze rings as was common in tunics. I've got a while to go before it reaches my thighs but I need to start considering how to do the shoulder doubling. All the reconstructions I see have a U-shape that covers the upper back and folds over the shoulders, but in a number of places I read they're more likely two separate flaps. What is the one-piece reconstruction based off of? Is there merit to this two-piece theory?
