I am working on a Classical Thracian peltast impression (you have to love those boots) so I guess I can be counted in with Greek reenactors (depending on the pay and promise of loot of course). 8)

Good to hear from you again, Matt! People won't make linothorakes? I love 'em, for exactly the reasons others don't! - No panel-beating, soldering or welding, none of which I can do. No sewing, which I can do, but glueing is so much easier! It's a doddle!

Thracians definitely count, Dan Z and, if you come to an event of ours, I'll see about pay...

Oh, I agree, generally, it's just that most professional armorers deal mainly with metal, so this is out of their area. It is a good project for folks who can't do metalwork but still have some skills and cleverness. It's also a nice quiet project, except for the harsh language!

Yo, Dan! You and them boots...

Khairete,

Matthew

Time and money for me. This 8-5, 5 days a week job thing really is for the birds!

Otherwise i'd love to...Corinthian is probably one of my favourite helmet types.

I currently have an order for nine, which I haven't started, yet!

Re: How many Greek reenactors are there? - Anonymous - 07-06-2005

I'm a Greek reenactor too. But the biggest problem is the aspis. I've found a man who can work with bronze but heard from other people it could easily be 2 years or so before he finally made it. The only other option is to buy it, but I have really no idea where to buy an aspis.
Does anyone know which are the shipping costs of Australia (Manning Imperial) to Europe? Or from the USA to Europe?

Re: How many Greek reenactors are there? - Tib. Gabinius - 07-06-2005

We, sitting in Germany, just started a project to rebuild some hellenic and macedonian warriors. We re still at the reasearch and organizing the arms, and also our problem ist the aspis. The most you can get isnt the way we need it, cause mostly they dont make it usable. You ll have to lay the edge on your shoulder and this should be comfotable and not 2 cm...

But we start some tries soon to rebuild em, and we ll see what get out of that.

Go for it, Tiberius!
The apis problem is not insurmountable. I will try to get aspis manufacturers/traders to the Hoplite Gathering I have proposed, both to sell them and, perhaps, run workshops on making them.

Tib. Gabinius,

Can we expect your Hellenic and Macedonian warriors at the Hoplite Gathering?

Hi,everyone. I don't know exactly where I stand on this poll. I started in Greek hoplite re-enacting(alone,unfortunately) and quickly ran into a dead end. I had a terrible time finding a hoplon anywhere that was affordable to me and greaves---well, I tried the ones by Dee. shown on some very reputable sites and--Have you ever seen them pictured any way except one forward and one back(showing the inside)? That's because they are all two right ones. They do not make a left. Try wearing them.I sent mine back. Thanks,Andy

That will be a very stirring sight especially with Comerus in his Philip II outfit...!
Do you know where this event is to be held and what sort of display are you planning on?
regards
Arthes

O relax Cristina. The Jaws of the Archelogy Authority snarled and the ski resort was not made near the place. We Phoceans are tough people and we resisted the defilers successfully.

But you know tourism bussneses. It easier to mention that the resort is close to the most famous Antiquity site after Acropolis!!

Hope to see you all at the event!

Stefanos

Oh, real sorry to didnt answer you for a so long time, i just forgot to watch this....

No, we are interested to meet other groups but after some problems with the roman group we tried to intigrat we actually regroup in an own thing.
Next year we want to make the first steps in public, and so we also hope to come to gatherings and events.
