Don´t know if it was the reanctors intention. but this is the best reconstruction of Beotian SPARTOS (family claims to be be indigenous in the land from mythical times) possible trooper of IEROS LOCHOS that I have ever seen.

All the people on the page are members of The Hoplite Association - we are, effectively, the only re-enactors of Ancient Greece in the UK. The man with the Spartan kit is Steve Senior (that's his name, although it also accurately describes his age!), a very dedicated re-enactor who has spent a lot of cash and effort on his kit and is studying Classical Greek. You will be meeting him, and all the others, at Watford, Stefanos.

I hope they do not become dissappointed when I start explain heraldry to them.
Steve seems was intenting to make a Spartan but he recreated a Theban noble - a Spartos (!!!) very accuratelly!
SPARTOS = indigenous in a land
Yellow or Golden snake = Argos
Red snake (writhing) = Thebes - Beotoia
Black snake (with acircle) = Sparta-Lakonia
Snake Head (only) = Faestos - Crete
Black-Res snake = Macedonian Dynasty.

I'm sorry, I confused the issue. The chap with the red snake on his shield is Paul; he's not trying to be a Spartan. Steve is the one with the bronze-coloured shield with the red lambda on it; HE'S the Lacedaemonian.

Sorry my mistake! So then "Dreadlock" Paul then has made a very sucessfull Beotian SPARTOS (not Saprtan!) with the nicest red Beotian snake that I have seen so far!
And Yes, Paul are you sure you are not related to Perikles?

Starting is 50% of everything.
After all we had 4500 years to work on the language.
(6000 yrs if they agree on the translation of Linear A!!!)

Apparently, there are far more of us than are represented here. (Hardly surprising, when you consider that I'm the only one of 16 Hoplites in my Group who actually posts here!). I'm finding Hoplites everywhere. There's Athanasios Porporis in Melbourne and he says he's in touch with a group called Spartiates Mores in Greece. He didn't say whether they are re-enactors or just History Buffs, but I'm going to find out.
Meantime, everybody turn out your pockets, look under the carpet and down the back of the settee - we may yet find more....
