Show us your Greek impression - Gaivs Antonivs Satvrninvs - 11-09-2005

Hey,
Has anyone put on a "Show us your Greek impression" thread
like the Roman one next door?
I thought it might be cool and give people here a chance
to preview what to expect at the big upcoming event. Smile

Thanks,guys,for your response.

I had a feeling Comerus would have something to say on this.
Who's making your Phillip armor anyway,Hephaestus?

Stefanos, I've been reading your posts on Greek language
and enjoying it very much. I must say it seems harder than
Latin to me. Perhaps because more European languages
have Latin basis than Greek?

Great hearing from you both. Smile

I may try to post one myself
since I recently got a camera that will do it.

Well languages are like a tree Andy. The branches seem far from each other when they develop but they have common routs.
Well you certainly gave me an idea about a future post on the language roots that I hope might enlighten and aid people!
I hope that I see you at Watford.
Kind regards
Stefanos

It would be very surprising if Comerus didn't have something to say.....
I thought you meant Alexander's friend was making his armour...then reread the name........ROTFL
Yes, Latin is somewhat easier to learn or should I say recognise, but many Latin words originated from Greek they swopped the K for C etc, etc, ....
I haven't even posted a late Roman impression yet...
regards
Arthes

Hello,Christina,
Glad to see you in this ,too.
Neither have I put on a Roman impression. It seems
I'm always lacking a few items to complete my kit.
Lacking greaves and aspis for Greek.
Waiting on gladius and caligae for Roman.

I am a real nut when it comes to languages.
Always looking for the "root" or common element in English.
Anything that gives me better insight is welcome.
Stefanos' latest entries in Greek is terriffic.
I love to seek similarities between English,French,Italian
even German.Indo-European,I guess.
Fascinating! Smile

Well Andy, I regard any who knows the art of Hephaestus as his own children, not matter where he comefrom! Smile ....

This one is an Euro-Sarmatian named Przemek, yes he is the one who is making it & friend of Cacaius aka Cezary at your service!...

I should have news this Friday from them! Smile .....

Ave,Comerus,
I can't wait to see it all.
The pics of the helmet were great!

There's no use in rushing an artist, anyway Smile

Chaps, (and our revered chapess)

You can see people's kit on their groupo websites. Ours is www.hoplites.org and we have another at www.4hoplites.com .
The Spartanwarband has its own site and so do The Greek Warriors of New York. If you do a web search, you'll be able to see the kit of every member of each group.

Andy, you don't HAVE to have greaves, few of us have and they were actually going out of fashion at the time of the Persian Wars. I know they look great, IF you get good ones and my legs would look better in them than out, just as my face improves in a Corinthian helmet, but your kit could not be deemed incomplete without them.
