Merry Christmas and a happy New Year - Sassanid - 11-21-2005
Hi,
I have a question please for the Latin scholars amongst you. How would I write, or its nearest equivalent, "Merry Xmas and a happy New Year" in Latin? Preferably in Roman Latin, rather than the later version, but either would be fine.
From what little I do know on the matter, I gather there has been a festival at the end of December long before the Christmas era, perhaps linked to the shortest day. What did the Romans call that?

it is more simple than italian, but more simple in Corsican
Latin: Natale hilare= merry chrismas
Latin: Felix sit annus novus= happy new year
Corsican: Bon Natale= merry chrismas!.
Corsican: Bon Di, Bon Annu= happy new year!.....or: Pace e Salute!
Greek: Kala Christouyenna!= merry chrismas!.
Greek: Kali Chronia!= happy new year!...or : eutichismenos o kainourgios chronos( we wish you a happy new year!).
