To the North - Olaf The Viking - 01-25-2006

This is my first winter diorama. It is inspired from an Osprey drawing. Thracian and Greeks.

looks great!

I use a combination of different types of snow: a fluffy one and and more shiny one to get the fresh snowfall effect.

Hi Alexandru,

very nice indeed!!!

Taking a well painted picture like this one from McBride as model is always a key for a good diorama and the small soldiers from Zvezda a very good choice. You caught the winterly atmosphere of the scene in a convincing way. Zvezda is the reason at all that I who always made his Roman dioramas in the scale of 54 mm (1:32) is just trying one in 1:72.

BTW, hard guys, these old Greek walking out only in short shirts and without shoes, trousers and thick handkerchiefs - I would not be able to fight yet.

Greets - Uwe

Thank you all for your kind words but I'm beginning to think that is not a good idea. Sad

Is it home made (ex. baking soda) or is it something special made for modelists?

Re: To the North - Jeroen Pelgrom - 01-26-2006

it is special made for modelists: the shiny one i got from a shop which sells stuff for train (i think it was from [url:32gbuj9n]http://www.busch-model.com[/url]). The fluffy one i got from Games Workshop but i think that a good trainshop/ modelshop has the same stuff. Before i glue it, i mix them both (50/50)

There is no such thing in Romania because there are few consumers for this kind of products. There is only one company which imports Noch products. The good thing is that in modelism you can use alternative products: oregano and other spices for leaves, baking soda for snow, etc. It is more fun that way. Big Grin
