Cutting onions - Tarbicus - 02-09-2006
If, like me, you love onions but hate choppingthem, usually ending up looking like your favourite pet just died, here's a trick I've been using for years:
Take a fairly large piece of bread (one that you can hold in your mouth).
Put the bread in your mouth and hold it there.
Chop away.
No tears or irritation, pretty much guaranteed. But don't rub your eyes before washing your hands, it doesn't work that well.

Ahhh, I would have suggested a cheeseburger, but all the same.
I don't like onions, but a good tip nonetheless.

Washing my hands at intervals during the cutting also seems to work for me.

Great tip! I also rince off the onion if it's a big enough chunk, along with the knife blade...
...or even better, I make my girlfriend cut them...har har!

Now I know why they put us out of the kitchen, in the bakc yard to clean the onions what I was doing my service.
