Where to buy online? - Anonymous - 08-20-2002 Hello All.

I am newbie into all this, however, within the last week I have just been obsessed with all things Roman Army. I am wanting to purchase some miniatures but where I live, none of the hobby shops carry them and are not willing to order them for me. So does anyone know of a good place on the internet where I can purchase these items?

Specifically I am looking for the
ESCI Roman Legion set
or the
Italeri Roman Infantry set

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Where to buy online? - Anonymous - 08-20-2002 First of all, Welcome to RAT slushy. Are you only interested in modeling? Or do you plan on reenacting as well.

The Italeri set, is it the 1st Century BC roman infantry one of 1/72 scale? If it is, I have it and it's a pretty good set.

Not sure where to buy them online, although I am sure someone else here can help you with that.

Heck, worse comes to worse if you can't find a source, we can arrange something.

Enjoy the board and good luck!
"Only Trajan could go to Dacia."

Magnus/Matt
Optio
Legio XXX "Ulpia Victrix"
Re: Where to buy online? - Anonymous - 08-20-2002 Wow..quick reply. Thanks.

Right now I am only interested in modeling. Reenacting sounds fun but I doubt there is a unit near where I live (Southerwestern Indiana). I used to do Reenacting for the American Civil War time period but I haven't been active in over 5 years.

So right now, I am just learning all I can but would love to get my hands on some miniatures. I belive the Italeri set is the same one that you mentioned. I have found alot of pics online and I think I might have even seen yours posted on this board somewhere. I think I prefer the later periods..like 1st or 2nd Century AD but right now I will take what I can get. I noticed that HAT has some nice models still in production but like I said, I am just eager to get started.

Also...it is my understanding that the ESCI Roman Legion set is out of production and hard to find. Do you know if that is true?

I just found a possible online store. www.rollmodels.com
I think they might have want I want, but if anyone else knows of a good place with a large selection, please let me know.

Thanks Again.

Mike

Re: Where to buy online? - Anonymous - 08-20-2002 Hi BrainSlushy,
The Esci sets seem to be out of production, but you can get Italeri at:
www.testors.com
(plastic models - plastic figures, I think)
If you're particularly into plastics, you should take a look at Hat ( www.Hat.com , I think). But others are more knowledgeable than me on plastics (strictly a "metal man", myself)

Re: Where to buy online? - Anonymous - 08-21-2002 Thanks again. I have never had any plastic miniatures so we will see how this works out.

ESCI now done by Italeri - Anonymous - 08-21-2002 the old ESCI Imperials are being redone by Italeri,
should be available anytime now

and the old airfix mile fort set is back in circulation also

and you can try www.michtoy.com/ to see when they become available and get reviews of 72 scale figs for modelling or wargaming at the following groups

groups.yahoo.com/group/DBLCHM/
groups.yahoo.com/group/miniaturezone/
Dave

Re: ESCI now done by Italeri - Anonymous - 08-21-2002 Check e-bay for great figure deals, do a search for "Roman 1/72" for instance.

HaT.com is a good manufacturer, but they don't sell direct from the site. Michigan Toy Soldiers is probably the best retailer on the web.

Italeri has some really good Caesarian era Romans.

Presently the only Roman 1/72 figures out there are old ESCI ones, a very good set but rather hard to find. It seems Italeri is about to start producing those figures with a recast. Until HaT gets its new 1/72 scale Imperial Romans out, these'll be the only Roman figures in segmented armor available.

Word to the wise: Do not buy HaT's product # 7010, entitled simply "Romans." Its a recast of an old Airfix mold, and it is horribly inaccurate in many ways.

These are all plastic that I'm talking about. Some of the boys here do beautiful work with lead.

Check out leadwarrior.com for some great 54mm lead soldiers.

Re: ESCI now done by Italeri - Anonymous - 08-26-2002 Excellent. Thanks for all the good advice. I was just going to ask if anyone had any input on the old Airfix figures, but I now I know what to watch out for.

Yeah, I am definately looking forward to the new Italeri and new Hat figures.

Thanks Again guys.

Mike

|
