Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Giannis K. Hoplite - 08-07-2007 It must have been nice in Thermopylae this year! I almost finished my sword scabard. It is based on actual artifacts found in Vergina and in the battlefield of Marathon, and fro vase paintings. Those from Vergina had ivory,I have painted wood  Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Giannis K. Hoplite - 08-07-2007 Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Giannis K. Hoplite - 08-07-2007 Forgive the baldric in the first photos. The brass fitting are not yet complete(I need to find a way to secure them, nailing them I'm afraid will damage the wood underneath.Probably glue them?) Khairete Giannis Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Kallimachos - 08-07-2007 It really looks great Giannis. Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Giannis K. Hoplite - 08-07-2007 Thanks Kurt! Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Gaius Julius Caesar - 08-07-2007 You made that yourself. Really nice work. What is the throat and chape made from? Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Giannis K. Hoplite - 08-07-2007 The core is wood that I cut in half and carved the insided and the outside to become round. Then I covered it in leather. The black line is fabrick underneath the leather.Everything white is painted wood. Yes Gioi,I've no idea where I could find ivory and in such quantity. And if I found,I doubt I could afford it... The sword looks very good. Real ivory would be VERY expensive indeed. This is a very good imitation ivory, if you are interested: http://www.ivoryalternative.com/ Vale, Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - hoplite14gr - 08-08-2007 We did not forget the Thespians: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dienekes/1036725189/ A strict Polemarch from Pylos http://www.flickr.com/photos/dienekes/1043667978/ Kind regards Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Giannis K. You're very welcome all! If you ask nicely the company might even give yousome small free samples so you can check out the product yourself and try out it's workability like it's resistence to high friction tools like a dremel.
