Splendit reconstructions Kurt.
A suggestion if you like.
Change a the helmet of the gent with the rectangular shield and you have a
"Thyreoforos". Add linothorax and you get a "Thorakites". Add chain mail and you get a "romanised" infantry man of the later periods.

Please don't believe that I reenact a Macedonian peltast, I just have to stick with them, being the power of the time. :wink: To be honest, the wool chiton has no sleeves, it is cut straight and the wool cloth forms false sleeves. The other chiton (from linen) has the same straight form but is sewed on the top on just two points, so the shoulder is free. Nice when it is warm, but it was not warm (I have another chiton with long sleeves fortunately). :roll:
I hope we will see each other all some day. Greece would be the best location of course. Didn't the Australians had a plan to come to Europe next year?

Yes Wolfgang,these "fake" sleeves I was talking about.It is the "new" cut from the late classical times.You'll agree with me that the traditional classical cut without armwholes is more delicate.But since you live in Germany,and you re-enact in the winter...
As for your number,I'd say even fewer than 9 would be ok,if you keep your high accuracy standards.This number is 0,00001125% of your population!What percentage do you think re-enacts German culture in Greece :lol:
I'm thinking of attending my first re-enactment event in August 2008 in Thermopylae.Nothing is certain so soon,but do you plan to come???

What do you mean with late classical (I take c. 520 to 338 as the classical time)? I think the chiton with armholes was already in use about 400 BC. Is this wrong? And what did the people wear in real winter conditions? 8) Perhaps we should use PM or E-Mail or another thread, but I'm really interested in questions about civilian and military wear.
When in August will Thermopylae be? Is there a thread about it? I have no chance to have longer hollidays in the first half of August.

By late classical I mean a bit befor 400 bc to 338 bc.By the way,officially the classical times begin after the Persian wars in 479bc.

But I see you are Dory armed. Have you expended all your javelins, then?
( or is that a future project ? )You should come here to Sunny Queensland, where the temperature is 20-30 degrees c. all year round - you could quickly throw aside your zeira !
Lastly, I really like your pelte design ! What was the original inspiration for it ?

Hey,Wolfgang,maybe it's nice in Queensland,but Thermopylae is fine,too,especially in August! :wink: 8)
Paul,the comment applies to you,too-as to every one.If you don't have a chiton yet,then find one till summer.That's what I'll try to do,complete as much of the equipment I can and hope to go to Hotgates in summer.

I got confused by the reference to 'Macedonian peltast' - all Alexander's peltasts were Thracian AFIK.

I'm not from the group,thus i don't have the answer,But I do see clear influence from the Alexander mosaic on the pelte.Perhaps it's a combination of personal taste together with ideas from actual finds?

PS.Perhaps I confuse you bacause I was the first to state Geala is the best peltast I've seen.The "best" in my opinion does not so much have to do with luxury but the closeness to the real thing.Simple and accurate
