Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - hoplite14gr - 03-03-2008 Quote:Haha! Monastiraki? It seems someone out there makes good helmets, and nobody knows him! A pity. It is far better than any of the deepeeka ones, and I bet he didn't buy it much more expensive... ..and probably he does not know the his bussiness would expand with nutters like us  Kind regards Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - spyros - 03-03-2008 Quote:Kessariani 2-3-2008 Stefane again thank you and the rest of the crew for the memorable day. But next time we have to get some winter chitones and chlamydae. crazy spartans Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - hoplite14gr - 03-29-2008 As promished ' Parading in our Natiobal holiday: http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh84 ... I love the hoplite set up, it is also good to see such a good turnout to such events as well! All the best, Jon Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Robert Vermaat - 03-30-2008 Very good, Stefanos! Did you have fun? And good reactions from the public? Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Giannis K. Hoplite - 03-30-2008 Hey! I see those cast helmets are preferred by the Hoplites Mores! This is good, they're better than the deepeeka helmets. How were the reactions of the public? Khaire Giannis Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - hoplite14gr - 03-30-2008 Cast helmets but in aluminium which almost solves the weight problem. The public before the parade wanted photos with us. We were particularly pleased when schoolchildren asked us questions because the main purpose of the club is edjucational. Puzled look from the "offcials" were counterbalanced by the enthusiasm of the spectators Kind regards Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Giannis K. Hoplite - 03-30-2008 Do you mean that these ones are aluminum? And are they painted? They look much like the cast brass one. May I suggest a very easy and cheap replacement in the members' equipment? The red chitons with the white lines could be changed with simpler more accurate ones, that each member could make for themselves with a little guidance. It would dramatically improve the overall appearance! It's very good that people are starting realizing that the demonisation of re-enactors in Greece is a false. Khaire Giannis Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - hoplite14gr - 03-31-2008 30% now have their own woolen or linen chitons. One has a silken one! This is something that is easily rectified with time. After all world was not built in a day. Kind regards Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Giannis K. Hoplite - 03-31-2008 Just today I received this helmet. Ken Forbis very kindly donated it to me,and now i have an almost complete set. I need to make a shield. Greaves are nice but not essential yet,and i think the sandals won't wait for long either. Here are some photos. And here is the album with more pictures http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o118 ... %20Helmet/ Khairete Giannis Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Giannis K. Hoplite - 04-01-2008 Thank you Gioi. Fortunately in our farm there are not many neighbours  When it gets warm in some months I'll take photos in the countryside. Khaire Giannis Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Zenodoros - 04-01-2008 You now look quite the dapper young hoplite, Giannis! That helmet looks like a perfect fit. Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - hoplite14gr - 04-01-2008 Well done Yannis. I presume your shied will be a pleasant surprise to members. Kind regards Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Giannis K. Hoplite - 04-01-2008 Thank you Bonnie! The helmet has quite a good fit with a thick felt pilos underneath. But this was the case with its original owner too,so I guess I'm lucky in that one, too. Perhaps if I had slightly longer head it would fit better without the pilos. But the ancients some times wore thick felt caps (I know they were thick from sculptures from the Aphaia temple I think) so I'm not inaccurate in that one. Stefanos, I'm very worried about the shield, mainly because I'm thinking of trying extreme -for me- thing on that piece, too. But first of all I need time (and tools) which I don't know I'll have even in summer. I should have started that project from the previous summer... Khairete Giannis Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - hoplite14gr - 04-01-2008 Well good luck and patience. Actually I was referring to your shield device. Kind regards |
