Right. Sorry, you had done it clear you're going to make a new one. Yes I completely agree. Leave the black one as it is,and I agree on making the new one even a bit shorter than the linothorax pteryges. Also,my suggestion is that you make the bottom two layers not exactly square but slightly rounded. I realize this may be a problem in the linning, but I think it deserves a try...

PS. I knew it wasn't possible you would stop the greek re-enacting after your last project. once you start, you can't stop  8)

This is what I am going for.....so I think we are on the same page. I do not think it will be hard at all to get the curve with bias tape on the edge.

And I hope I can stop because at this rate I will have an entire phalanx worth of equipment and no place to put it..........

Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Kallimachos - 08-11-2008

Thanks a lot to all of you. The event was really great, see also here [url:2s2m3d2a]http://www.romanarmy.com/rat/viewtopic.php?p=210818#210818[/url]
@ Giannis the armours weight is about 10 Kg and move freelly is not always possible (you can forget to sit down in it :-) ) ).

Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Kallimachos - 08-12-2008

Sorry Javier, I overread your question yesterday. The cuirass is handmade by a blacksmith with a front and back plate. It's not ready of course, it was a first try on looking how it fits. By the way, your shield looks great!

Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Hoplite480 - 08-26-2008

A couple of imags from the show this weekend.

I apologise for the poor quality of a couple of them- the person taking the pictures didnt seem to understand the concept of "Point and shoot"

And showing off the lino. I think the Pterges are a bit short, but they come to the right height when I sit down- AKA they dont touch the ground. But the fact that they tended to stick out a bit really drove me up the wall. The reason its a bit crooked is because the Left panel (I did the multiple panel construction) is a bit too big so once it gets warm, so it shifts a bit. I was really surprised how comfortable it was to wear, although when I took it off on Sunday after two days of 10+ hours wearing it in 95 degree heat it was as flexible as a wet towel.

I did Macedonian on Sunday. The lino is the same (didnt have the chance to make another one.) For some reason EVERYONE thought this one was roman. I swear, by the end of the day I was ready to impale the next person who said "Hail Caesar" on the end of my dory.

Ive still got a fair amount of work to do, but I think progress is going along nicely.

I like the Hellenistic impression very much, congrats.

Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Giannis K. Hoplite - 08-27-2008

Michelle, well done, good job! I like your corinthian and your hellenistic impression is very nice. The lino and pteryges are just fine. I see you have made a nice scabard fr your kopis. Is it straight?

Hi Michelle, great impression! I think you have the same kopis than me, the scabbard I made is just made of leather, but yours looks very nice! and your helmet is great! Did you took some pics when re-shaping the corintian cheekpieces?

regards

Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Hoplite480 - 08-28-2008

Thanks for the comments everyone.

My Kopis is the basic Deepeeka $35-$70 (depending on where you get it) special. When I did the scabbard, I took and built a basswood (it was the best thin wood I could get) box, glued it, rounded the corners, and then covered it in leather and did a brass bottom and neck. The sword itself is straight, so I didnt have to do a curved one, which is a good thing, since im not quite sure how I would build that. Its really a very simple rig, and I still need to figure out how to do rings, as right now the cord is attached to the body of the scabbard with nails, which works and is authentic, but I tend to worry that it will come out at the worst time (the reason im not wearing the short sword is that I must have tied the cord on wrong because the scabbard kept flipping over and dumping the blade out when I was wearing it- it only took one close call with my toes to opt to go with the Kopis for the rest of the weekend.)

I know there is a horse headed kopis (not the Deepeeka one, I think its DSC armory) floating around that is more curved that comes with a very plain scabbard that I have been considering getting and doing some work to. If I do, Ill let everyone know what I think of it.

And I actually DO have pictures of the restructuring of the helmet cheekguards. Ive actually got pics of it pretty much through all of the stages. Ive been planning on doing a thread on it in the beginners section as soon as I have time to edit, resize and upload everything.

Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - Chris B - 08-28-2008

I believe the falcata you are referring to is the Windlass Steelcrafts model. I own a sharpened version of it and like it very much for the price. The handles tend to work loose some if they take any sort of blow at all, but you can re-peen the tang against the back side of the grip. I have used mine to cut wara and it performed very well. Of course it feels a bit more like an axe in use, but it cuts well.

As far as the scabbard, it is complete garbage. You will have to make a new one. I salvaged the rings from it, but that is about it. On the ring issue, you can just buy brass rings and make brass collars around the scabbard or you could attach it with leather underneath the outer leather layer. That may be a moot point if your leather has already been glued to the wood though. Good luck.

Those are very sweet impressions Sefanos. Thanks for sharing them. I love to see the vast variety in Greek hoplite impressions. Those are awesome.
