Here is mine, made by Eric Konig:

Beautiful!

any better details of the hilt? Does he have a website?

The fluting looks really nice on the pommel. I rarely see ones like this though there are a few like that in archaeological finds.

Re: show off your gladius - tlclark - 08-10-2007

Y'know, it seems to me, vague memory here, that the decoration of gladius hilt is more extensive in artwork than in the found examples.

Does anyone know of any examples in art?

Tlclark I will send you pics of hilts, there is more found than you think it just depends on the view of art ,even the plainest of hilts have a beauty about them, it tends to be the scabbard that has the wow facter in the early period.

That's a beaut, but no specifically I'm talking about gladii in relief sculpture. A number look like they have inset gems, etc. (forgive me I haven't got any at my fingertips)

Is there any evidence for this? Anybody reconstructions based on these?

Re: show off your gladius - tlclark - 08-15-2007

Boy! I'm a thread killer!!

Ok, so has anyone tried something like this odd example?

The xiphos/parazonium has some odd examples in art as well, but some of those can be attested to in art.

Anybody made a sword based on any of these?

Re: show off your gladius - Tarbicus - 08-15-2007

Travis, I've pointed to your photos of the parazonium/a on your website a number of times, but everyone seems to cop out and go for an eagle head instead. Do a Search on parazonium and officer, etc.

Re: show off your gladius - Caballo - 08-15-2007

Hi,

Finally got round to posting my swords!

From the left- a Late Roman/ 3rd century spatha, a heavily modified Deepeeka spatha, and a Pompeii gladius made (and repaired) by David Hare of the ESG and Pompeii swords.

Cheers
