Topic locked - Tarbicus - 11-23-2006

I would appreciate the chance to edit my posts before the topic is clamped down on, thankyou very much.

Re: Topic locked - Ioannis - 11-23-2006

The discussion about that documentary is not politics strictly speaking . It's about an issue of immense importance that affects the life of every human being. I think that being able to express our views and thoughts about such issues is not only legit but it's our duty as well...

Re: Topic locked - Tarbicus - 11-23-2006

No, I brought politics into it (not intended to be that way) and am willing to delete those comments.

I ask for the topic to be unlocked.

Even Ebay subjects get the chance and are usually edited, not locked.

Re: Topic locked - Praefectusclassis - 11-23-2006

I'm happy to unlock the thread temporarily Jim, if you want to change your comment. However, it is still current events and coming from an ex-presidential democrat, it is inevitable that it will be understood as politics. Perhaps not by everyone, but that is irrelevant. We - the mods and admins - cannot move the line depending on whether we think it is a worthy cause or not.

Re: Topic locked - Tarbicus - 11-23-2006

I'd prefer to delete all of my posts than see the topic gone.

At least the science could be discussed, and commerce is not politics.

I Repeat - rusty myers - 11-23-2006

1. No illegal topics (porn, bombmaking, inciting hatred, hacking, pirating, etc.). No modern politics or religion (though discussion of ancient political/religious themes is allowed, so long as it does not degenerate into proselytizing or attacks on other faiths.) If you must tie everything to the war in Wherever-stan, please take it elsewhere. This forum does not exist as a debate site for current world events -- it was created to discuss the ancient world, specifically the Roman military.

The entire Global warming debate is political/ current world event, no matter your views or mine, this is so we do not "lose respect" for each other over stuff we will never agree on.

"this forum does not exist as a debate site for current world events -- it was created to discuss the ancient world, specifically the Roman military."

Plenty of sites for Politics everywhere else, this is for our hobby and research.

Locked/unlocked? I don't get that. Can I reserve the right to edit my post if a subsequent edit makes me look like a horses' patoot?

Lets all laugh, buy a pint (Guinness or Bud, I prefer Mead myself), and talk Coolus G's... Cool-us... get it?

Sure. You can always ask Rusty.

Re: Topic locked - Tarbicus - 11-23-2006

If I hide mine then you hide yours

Politics is part of the docu, but if the science were discussed I don't see the harm, especially if Off-Topic. Alien life isn't the Roman army either Smile

Re: Topic locked - rusty myers - 11-23-2006

For the record, I am laughing... No hard feelings need be engendered from this!

Re: Topic locked - Tarbicus - 11-23-2006

Good, and I agree about no hard feelings. Can I delete my posts?

Re: Topic locked - rusty myers - 11-23-2006

You can Tarbi, and I knew you would not make me look like a horses' patoot... was making a point there..., but in truth I think the whole thread was modern and political. A no no here. Scientists can be found on both sides of it, the press only on one, etc... too much room for arguments. I am so sick of politics I find myself listening to.... nothing on the radio... Even the music stations have to interject their opinions between songs. Call me sick of it... RAT is a haven, and I do not want to lose it. BEst thing about events is No Radio, No TV, No Pager, No Phone, No Cell, No Police Radio, No Email, No RIM Com... Wow... I need to camp!

Though...

I do wonder one thing... if CO2 emissions are so bad... why do Cokes and Pepsi's still fizzle?

BAN THE SODAS!!!!!!!!!

How else can you generate a fantastic burp?

Seconded! We had our general elections yesterday - glad that's over!

Re: Topic locked - Magnus - 12-08-2006

The topic wasn't even remotely meant to be political. You bring what you do to a topic based on your own mindset. On a personal level I don't believe that the environement is a taboo topic...any person with a shred of common sense can see there is only one side to that topic...the side that believes something should be done about it.

I was interested in starting a discussion about the current environmental issues at hand, and that can be done whilst staying within the rules. I already had Jim pm me an apology for having the thread closed, and I'd very much like to have seen the thread re-opened, though now it's lost it's moment.

It's like the dark side cave on Dagobah...you bring whatever evils and demons you carry on your person into it. Leave'em at the door and you won't need your blaster or lightsaber. :?

And I won't have my darn threads shut down cuz of it.

Re: Topic locked - Tarbicus - 12-09-2006

The topic should be re-opened for discussion.
