Be interested to hear from those who work in these, participate or have visited. We dont have many over here, so if we work on one, we want to know the ins and outs.

lessons from Archaeolink (I think, I wasn't involved so can't say for sure);

1, put it somewhere where there are enough people to generate the footfall required to stay solvent, an expectation of 100k visitors fell to a through put of 19k and became unviable.

2, don't spring for a signature architect designed centre piece building, this puts you in the hole financially on day one. Stick to mud and sticks where possible this makes the park reversible.

Good luck with the venture, Confusedmile:

Look at this:

Who would have thought a Viking long house would be so popular in Dorset?! But there is Iron Age, Roman and Saxon on this site.

You need to know your school curriculum.

You need to be able to mix and match periods but not mix and match experimental archaeology with a theme park!

Don't compromise on authenticity but make sure you can bring it alive. You also need to make sure it will pass health and safety standards or you'll never get a public license.

Most of all, it is for fun and for the customers

I work in Archeon (the Netherlands) as a Roman Re-enactor, but also at the office on projects, museum administration etc.

What is it specifically you want to know?

Mostly what makes it successful and allow it to continue. Why people come and what they expect.
