Differences between the Kopis and Falcata - Zenodoros - 03-27-2007

I'm curious to know on how the Iberians improved on the Greek style sword.

Supposedly the falcata was slightly shorter, and whereas the kopis was only sharpened on the bottom end, the front eight or so inches on the upper blade of the falcata would also be sharpened, so as to allow more versatility.

I was wondering if anyone who has perhaps studied both weapons could state whether this is true or not, or if there are any pre-Iberian examples of kopides being sharpened on both sides.

There is a rather good summary of differences between the kopis, falcata, and machaira in this thread on a supposed Roman falcata (pretty much shot down) found in the Netherlands:

Informative and well laid out Smile
