Interesting Foot Armor - Sulla - 03-28-2007 I was doing some more research and found this foot armour. Has any one seen other examples? Re: Interesting Foot Armor - Gaius Julius Caesar - 03-28-2007 ??????? Re: Interesting Foot Armor - Theodosius the Great - 03-28-2007 Hmm...I don't see anything either :? Re: Interesting Foot Armor - Sulla - 03-29-2007 Sorry I forgot to add a pic and now I cant find it again. But I did add another one I found. Re: Interesting Foot Armor - Gaius Julius Caesar - 03-29-2007 Very much like Greek hoplite foot armour! Some in the London museum I believe, amoungst others! Re: Interesting Foot Armor - Sulla - 03-29-2007 Yes the other one I cant find now was from the Londan Museum I think. I wonder if the Romans ever used them. Seems like a good way not to get your foot smashed. Re: Interesting Foot Armor - Gaius Julius Caesar - 03-29-2007 Yep! Probably while they still utilized hoplite tactics and armour! Re: Interesting Foot Armor - Comerus Gallus - 03-29-2007 ... Re: Interesting Foot Armor - Sulla - 03-29-2007 So any evidence of them in the 1st century AD? Re: Interesting Foot Armor - Comerus Gallus - 03-29-2007 ... Re: Interesting Foot Armor - Sulla - 03-29-2007 Hmm interesting Re: Interesting Foot Armor - Felix Canus - 03-29-2007 My first thought is OW! Has anybody tried using a reconstruction of this? The way that hinge is set, it looks like it would cause a lot of pain across the knuckles. When I get a boot that starts folding like that, the boots get replaced before they eat my toes. Re: Interesting Foot Armor - Sulla - 03-29-2007 Well hopefully it would have some padding underneeth and not really ride directly on the foot. Re: Interesting Foot Armor - Robert Vermaat - 03-29-2007 I'll move it to the Greek section then? Re: Interesting Foot Armor - Dan Diffendale - 03-29-2007 Quote:My first thought is OW!Well, the placard underneath the two in the picture says, "Few examples of foot-guards survive; they may have proved too cumbersome to provide practical benefit." I've heard it suggested that they were for cavalry, where walking wouldn't be as much of a trouble, and your feet would be right up in a prime stabby spot. Quote:I'll move it to the Greek section then?Or the Italic section... |
