Can you post some pictures? This may be useful http://www.atarn.org/chinese/scythian_bows.htm The Simon James book on Dura Europas also has a detailed examination of a bow found in a grave- unfortunately I do not have the references to hand- perhaps someone else can help here? Regards Caballo Bow - arrowmaker - 05-01-2007 Yes I think I have got some photos I made this first one for a customer who wanted the real thing not the normal glass things on the market. Regs arrowmaker Re: ARROWS - Dan Howard - 05-01-2007 David Sim has some good info on making arrowheads in Iron for the Eagles. Re: ARROWS - M. Demetrius - 05-01-2007 Arrowmaker, you probably already have it, but http://www.woodbows.com/ has quite a variety of information and finished, or partly finished bows to help. The Mongol Bow they have is pretty close to the Scythian. Re: ARROWS - arrowmaker - 05-02-2007 Thanks M Demetrius thanks for link there are a few books I do not have my birthday is soon looks like books books. arrowmaker. PS anyone know Latin for arrowmaker or fletcher Re: ARROWS - Gaius Julius Caesar - 05-02-2007 Wow, nice site fred! Demetrius - 05-02-2007 Archer is sagittarius Arrow is sagitta Bow is arcus Bowstring is nervus Don't have fletch, -er in my dictionary, but feather is penna Hope that helps some Re: ARROWS - arrowmaker - 05-02-2007 thanks for reply is there Latin for maker I think sagitta maker or is there a proper noun that joins them together. arrowmaker Re: ARROWS - M. Demetrius - 05-02-2007 maker = factor Latin names are more structured than just translating a craft to Latin, unlike English. Carter, Cooper, Fletcher, Miller, Baker, Carpenter, Smith, all good English craft-surnames, wouldn't be the name of the one who did them in Roma. If I were an arrow maker, for example, I would still be Marcus Demetrius. "Maker of arrows" would be "Factor sagittarum" just the same. I might be called M. Demetrius, factor sagittarum. Re: ARROWS - arrowmaker - 05-02-2007 Magic my Roman Warrior over the water Thanks Arrowmaker |
