Fall of Icarus

Well. Ahem. This I found quite shocking to read: the famous painting of The Fall of Icarus is not by Pieter Breugel. The article (in Dutch) is here; the gist is that they have investigated the material and that it turns out to be of about 1600, while the famous painter died in 1569.

It's odd, but this changes something. Same painting, different feeling.

Interesting, but maybe it's a faithful copy after an original by Breugel? At least the ships look rather old fashioned for the year 1600.

That's indeed one of the solutions to retain the possibility that it's still actually a Breugel. I love the painting very much; I hope it's indeed a copy.
