Can someone tell me what should be changed to make the deepeeka Imperial Gallic 'H' helmet more acurate.

Can someone give a list of the things to do and how to do them?

Thanks a lot in advance!
That's a Gallic G, though I'm not sure its a Deepeeka. My Deepeeka Gallic G has square rather than rounded corners about the neck guard.

It's my understanding that Deepeeka revised their Gallic H. You might want to check which version you have.

If it's a G then he must have put the extra eye-brow in. A trooper also has a very pronounced curvature to the neck guard, lacks the bulge on the neck guard near the bowl, lacks the shield shaped jut on the cheek guards, and lacks the curvature on the rear of the cheek guards.
Hey, you guys forgot one... I think it's made by some company in Rome. Pretty shoddy workmanship, if you ask me...
Do you already have the helmet? It's best to look at the flaws once you got it and make a list of what to do. I will certainly give you my opinion.
Having handled this lid I think it best to warn everyone that it is mostly resin! The only original bit is the top of the bowl, the rest, including the cheek-pieces were added by a dealer. The shape of the rest of the bowl, the neck-guard and the cheek-pieces was assumed from the eye-brows which looked 'G'-ish.
Yes I already have the helmet. I'm pretty sure it's the Imperial-Gallic H version JSW posted (second pic).

The changes that I plan to make are:

-replace the 'frankenstein' screws with brass rivets (what kind should I use?)

-trim the earguards a little because I think these are too wide.

-...

Are there other things I should change? Are the cheekguards correct?

Thanks for the advice
Didn't Depeeka add an extra "step" at the back of the skull piece so that there are 4 as opposed to 3 as there should be. Also, the steps appear to be bulges on the Depeeka.

Rivets that are large enough, brass or copper. I guess you should go for the 5mm shank width.
Are the earguards welded? In that case you should make new ones.
The triangle shape of the cheekguards should be just under the rim.
It's my helmet in the thread that JSW posted the link to- and I can say that it's definitely not either their presently available Imperial Gallic G or H, although I have a feeling it might have been an older style- before the majority of corrections were made. It required a whole bunch of adjustments and additions. I added all the florate rivet bosses and the crest support on top (it orignally had a round, slotted-type support), I had to move the cheekguards back toward the ears (they were much too far forward), and also replace all the brass rivets with copper ones. I got all the information about what things should look like and where they should be by looking at images of other reenactors' helmets, posted on various websites, and from images of actual artifacts. Matt Amt's LEGIO XX website has all kinds of images and information about what the various helmets should look like: www.larp.com/legioxx/helmets.html

As for specifics of the things I did, well as I said, I replaced all the brass rivets with copper ones (I prefer copper and they're a lot easier to peen than brass)- the small ones are 1/8" diameter shank, the large ones for the browguard are 3/8" diameter shank. It also seems that a lot of good helmets have a small piece of brass folded over the ends of the brass edging (presumably to keep it on)and riveted in place. So, I added these (2 for each cheekguard, and 2 for the neckguard edging).

The only other 'problems' that were pointed out to me are the ridges at the back of the helmet being round instead of 'stepped' (but there's nothing much that can be done about this), and that the neckguard is too large. You can see in my thread that it was suggested that I trim about 1" off mine to make it better. In the middle, mine is nearly 5" wide, so if yours is too, a trim might be in order. I plan to simply use my dremel with a cutoff wheel to cut the brazing spots on the underside to release the brass edging, cut the neckguard with aviation snips, and solder the edging back on.

Actually you can fix this. When I made my own helmet, I started out with making the ridges just like round gutters (seen from the inside) also. This was a mistake, but then I went to fix it and it worked. I did it as follows: Just use a chisel (not to wide) and hammer a line a bit above the center of each 'gutter' from the inside. Keep on going over it until you satisfied with the result. You will see to your delight the steps being formed. Of course you will have to sand the ridges a lot afterwords a lot to make them smooth, but that's nothing compared to the results.
Success,
