This is from Graham Webster`s "The Imperial Roman Army" (pages 203-204):
"The roman method of bathing was totally different from ours. Not for them the brisk shower or private wallow in the tub - these modest facilities of our modern age would have appalled them. In this respect civilization has regressed, since the classical method is far more healthy, both physically and socially, and has survived in a much reduced form in the Turkish bath and can be seen better, perhaps, in the Finnish steam bath. "
