Thanks for the post M.K. Alexander. I read the article and want to congratulate your group for what looks like a great educational presentation.
The newly forming group I'm in hope to do similar presentations.

Sadly, the gladiators theft us most photos from the news...
we, the Coh I Gall, cannot do nothing against a bare-chested muscled gladiator
For still photos, I might agree. In action, however, nothing can top a well drilled squad.

Good pictures!
Looks like your vexillarius uses a detachable mask with his Gallic Levy helmet- be interested in how he attachs it and his experience of a detachable mask?

It is most probably that the Nijmegen face mask were detachable. At least the lose pin used to attach it suggest it was take off the helmet easily.

@ Caballo.
The helmet is very comfortable, but your sight is reduced under the facemask. In sunshine, the helmet gets very fast very hot, because there is no air movement under the mask. The mask is fasted with a simple hinge on the rim, remove the pin and you can easily remove the mask.
This year, our Vexilifer changed the Levy Helmet for a Ribchester Helmet, because he have seen a gravestone with a standartbearer that wear such a helmet (i´ve forget the name Cry ).
