Salve,
I was wondering if any of your groups had some interesting "initiations" for new members? I thought it would prove an interesting touch.
Thanks in advance,

We're thinking about it, though adapting what is known from original oaths to the present day is a little bit of a stretch (e.g., the promise not to over-loot for personal gain.)
I don't think that's such a bad oath myself, but the rest of the guys think it's antiquated.

Even something unexpected and somewhat humous would work as well...

We used to make our fanoogies/FNGs (F&*king New Guys) dig a new latrine.... Until we decided it was funnier to make them dig the old one deeper.

Somewhat OT, since I've only done American Civil War, but we used to make our 'fresh fish' (new reenactors) do a little ritual in the brigade lineup (all regiments on one 'side' together before marching out). They would pop open a cartridge, spit in their hand, and then mix it with the blackpowder. They would then spread the resulting black goo on their face. This served two purposes: to mark them on the field to everyone that they were new and to look out for them (since the safety factor was a big thing) as well as to initiate them to the hobby. Needless to say, I spread that black crud all over my face in my first one way back in '95.

Matt,
You sound amazingly like me
I would just like a nice little initiation for them...
I remember when I passed my Jump Course and had my new Paratrooper wings mashed into my chest (the inner holders were not on  )... nothing so intense, but something maybe like a running of a pool noodle/pila gauntlet or something???

Beats the hell out of the "Legio XXI" branding one of my guys came up with

I think that will be the culmination of the ceremony followed by lots of vino 8)
Just need something humourous preceding it...

Maybe a washable ink stamp would be better than searing it into the flesh? Maybe an SPQR ink stamp?

How about if you put it on as SPRQ, then say, "Sorry, soldier, we''ll have to start all over, the tattoo didn't come out right...Medicus! Bring your scalpel! We have a do-over."
