anthropomorphic sword accuracy
#1
Saw this:

http://www.medieval-weaponry.co.uk/acat ... sword.html

I have the R Clarke report, which shows many of these type of swords but not one exactly the same as this.

Obviously the blade needs a reshape, no biggie, but the handle is important part? They are telling me it's bronze but I suspect "antiqued brass" and of course they are completely unable to give any historic precedence, even though it's called "historically accurate" ....

Anyone got one ?
Seen one in the flesh ?

They also call this historically accurate "Roman body armour".

Not a very credible place. Historically accurate for those who don't know what historically accurate is. "Hey it looks like it could have been used in Gladiator. They must be right." At least someone found a use for that left over stainless steel siding.

...now, that's awful armour .

the anthropomorphic is very close to some of the originals, which made me pause. As I say, I doubt it's bronze and the vendor will tell you any b*ll*cks to make the sale......

..caveat emptor.

I don't recommend buying from the company since even though the pic doesn't look too horrible, I would not trust them. It may look nothing like the pic when it arrives or might have some horrible flaws that were not evident in the minipic. The price is enough that you can go to more reputable sources where quality is more assured.

... find me a more reputable company with a good anthropomorphic weapon (for reasonable money) and I'd be there ..

The deltin weapon for example, while fairly accurate, is oversized.

these guys have something weird and don't answer emails anyway.

cheers

I'm doing a search and to be honest quality is pretty low. A lot of cheapo companies who are not really doing a good job with capturing the design.

Heres a good example I found, but it is custom work.

The anthropomorphic hilt, while it is pretty simple has a certain artistry to it that does not exist in the cheapo reprods I've seen which are pretty much just two opposite facing curves and a knob.

Here is an excellent example from a museum of what I am speaking of.

Personally if I had the money I'd go custom and do it right, unless someone else here knows of a place that does a better version. Actually what I think Iwould do first is probably ask around the forum to guys who are good at this sort of thing and try to get their interest in working on it. I'm sure you could find someone willing to take on the project.

Whoops. First time I've ever referred someone to their own work. I guess I better pay more attention to things like authors names Confusedhock: and such. Its definately is one of those days. Its time for a beer and I'm going to sleep. Later.
