"Much sought after reenactors piece." Someone dosen't know about ancient reenacting, or is trying to scam a beginner.

Well, you don't really have to "seek" very far. Those things are everywhere. They sell a bunch of them, and some theatre groups are realizing that they're almost as cheap as plastic helmets. Not much more accurate, but -- ah, theatre. We're a strange bunch at best.

I guess I'd rather see a troop of Romans in Trooper helmets than plastic "Attic/Tribune" goldish ones, if that were the only two choices. Sigh.

Other than that, don't buy one! Many of us have one sitting on a back shelf, a testimony to believing sellers' claims of authenticity before doing real research.

Well, I was saved early, I don't have one, or any reenactment equipment for that matter, but that will change after my vacation.

Oh, it's no exaggeration--well, at least the "Much sought after" part. Even with the companies that make much more accurate gear, the junk items like the Trooper helmets are by far the biggest sellers. What you have to realize is that only a very tiny percentage of the total market is made of reenactors who know and care about detailed accuracy, which is why there are so many junk dealers out there making lots of money.

If theater groups are willing to use something as *good* as a Trooper helmet, I'm impressed. Heck, I'd be thrilled if Hollywood ever got that authentic--though in all fairness I did see a trooper helmet in a Capital One commercial. I cheered.

No, not this summer. I'm reffering to my trip out west in 10 days. My dad has the week off after that. He said he'll take me to the local reenactment store. I hopefully will go to greece next summer, and get out of the 8th grade graduation.

Hmm that helmet seems a bit plasticky to me.

Unfortunately many including myself have been caught out with these 'helmets'. When our group which is primarily Medieval decided to do Romans there were block orders being made on ebay prior to research. Along came the dodgey helmets, loricas, gladiuses? gladii? swords? pointy thingys, pugios, balteus/singulums. Fortunately I only paid £90 for the lorica and helmet the latter of which I sold on to someone who just wants it as an ornament. The lorica I slung up the back of my shed and have been using the steel to make other things. Got a proper helmet and built my own lorica. Piccys will eventually follow
I ignored my own golden rule. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH..Its costs less to ask questions than it does to buy the wrong kit. By the way Mr Wink  I hope that Pompeii I bought off you is pukka Smile
