alternative solder uses?
#1
a little question has been floating through my head...
can tin and silver solder be used for purposes other than, well... soldering. i am wondering if i could use tin solder to smelt bronze? i also curious if i could use silver solder to make replica denarii? would any of this work or is it just a dumb idea?

Edited by: Emeraldweapon7d at: 1/20/05 10:53 pm

Query part one smelting bronze, no, unless you know a secret I haven't read about or been told about.
Query part two, I have tried to make replic coins with silver solder, and the results are not very sharp, and are brittle in the extream. I had better results using some broken lead/tin alloy toy soldiers but molded coins just don't look right, since the real coins were stamped.
"Just before class started, I looked in the big book where all the world's history is written, and it said...."
