alternative solder uses?

a little question has been floating through my head...<br>

Query part one smelting bronze, no, unless you know a secret I haven't read about or been told about.<br>
Query part two, I have tried to make replic coins with silver solder, and the results are not very sharp, and are brittle in the extream.
