Help with a Latin word
#1
Hello all,

Could anyone help with an odd little Latin problem....
I wonder if anyone knows the Latin word for 'squid'? I have looked in my English|Latin|English dictionary, but it is a bit too general for 'squid'. The nearest I have found is'sepia' which is cuttlefish! Odd request, hope someone can enlighten me.

Thanks

Yes, "Agrimensor" is right. The Oxford Latin Dictionary says:

lolligo, -inis f = a squid

You can also have:

lolliguncula = diminutive form of lolligo

Apicius uses "Lolligine" in his recipes...

Absolutely glorius!
Send me 10 pounds plus a jar of marinara sauce.
I already have the deep-fryer.
