I've never read Connolly's Roman Army, but I suspect that the lorica musculata back then would have less ''striking'' colours... they may be the right colour but perhaps a little too bright...
Thats just me though, ask the experts for the truth lol

Thank you for posting it Comerus. ... and yes, this red-wine color is always an eye-catcher
@
Marcus, you're definitly right (btw, Connolly's pictures aren't even close to that brightness)... I think, I did it more the way I - and may be Augustus himself ;-) ) - had preferred it ...

This is my interpretation how these statues might have been colored ... I drew some inspiration from articles posted here in RAT, especially about Caesars boots :-) ) ... just tell me if you think that something may have totally gone wrong (...except the point that Caesar statue looks like a painted miniature figure ;-) ) ...)
btw. does anybody know what this "thing" in Caesars right hand is? may be a fragment of something bigger???

I'm not an artist- or even a good drawer at that. Here is two of my drawings depicting roman military... I've got loads of these, hundreds of pages in my drawers...
P.S. sorry for the poor quality of the pictures, I had to use camera...

that's what all talented people say ;-) ) ... what you do is really good ...very vivid ... I like the second more (it has not so hard shades as the first)... you should make a comic story with it ...
