Will do! Piece is about 18 cm, so that one turned out too long, I'm afraid. Plumbata are a pain!

That looks great, Robert. You might be able to make a tool called in English, "holdfast", which takes the place of a helper to hold the stock while you use your hands for the cutter and hammer.

There's lots of types, like the one I once sent you a picture of once upon a time...the foot-powered one.

Thanks! I do have one of those, but need to cut a V notch or something into it, as these plumbata have no wider the 0.5 cm stems and are really shifty little buggers. And an afternoon of forging should be good for Robert.

Just heat the business end of it, and fold it over a piece of square stock. It should work for round rod pretty well that way, if you keep the size right....

Ah, yes, sorry there, I indeed was thinking of giving it a "hot treatment" when I mentioned "cut". Thanks!

During our artillary display at Binchester, while throwing the Plumbata the lightest one did this
At first it looked like it had hit a stone and jumped up a foot or so until we went to retreve;
As you can see it went straight through this piece of branch :lol: :lol:
This did not even split the wood it punched straight through
This one I found in the workshop and had just quickly fletched it up as one broke during the weekend display

Thanks for that!
Question:
what does this one weigh?
Question 2:
why so few space between weight and fleetching?
May I add another question?
How was it thrown? I am assuming over arm, but assumptions being the mother etc...
Very interested to see the "punch" and that the wood hasn't split at all. It would certainly bring tears to the eyes...
