Thats part 1 of 6 from this show done on the last day of Pompeii. I thought it was pretty cool and worth watching. Oh, they do have all 6 parts up there. lol

"I\'ll Either Find A Way Or Make One" from Hannibal
Just rewatched "Demetrius and the Gladiators" last night after getting it on a cheap DVD compilation with The Robe, The Bible and Agony and Ecstasy. Interesting reminder of the strange development that costumes were more authentic back then than now. For some reason, the Cinecitta TV production look (big-weaved clothes, leather armor etc.) made it into the mainstream, when there had been already decent segmentatas etc. before (at least acc. to the state of knowledge at the time).
Looks promising (I guess), at least better than Centurian.

"So now I meet my doom. Let me at least sell my life dearly and have a not inglorius end, after some feat of arms that shall come to the ears of generations still unborn"
Hektor, the Iliad
I think it looks promising. I can't really comment upon the accuracy of the gear but it looked dramatic - leaving aside the usual reservations about regional English and broad American accents!

I wish they'd had Playmobil figures when I was a kid. Much later in life I bought a load of Romans and Vikings for my son and they were great fun. But now he's addicted to X-Box 360 and we don't play them anymore ...

Which reminds me - I finally got to see Centurion just before Christmas, on an Air India flight home from Delhi. Even allowing for the inevitable in-flight-entertainment censorship (I mentally added a few gouts of gore every time the scenes jumped), it was a very poor film. Basically just a collection of chase-movie cliches, with one bunch of scruffy guys in furs pursuing another bunch of scruffy guys in furs through a forest. It even had the gall to 'quote' Butch Cassidy a couple of times... I watched the A Team movie straight afterwards and found it a lot more original and authentic hock:

The rest of our Legion is going to see 'The Eagle' on opening night next weekend in kit (I can't wait to see the reaction of the civillian population for that...). We'll give our review then...
That ought to be a hoot. Make sure you take along a camera person (in civilian garb) to film the reaction. Where will you put the PILA and Scuta? They won't fit under the seats!
