New recruits
Greetings all,

My name is Adam and i live in the gloriously rural part of County Durham, England.

I am currently in my 3rd year of a BA Ancient History and Archaeology with the University of Leicester and will be returning there post-grad to undertake an MA in Rome and its Neighbours.

As I am writing this, I am taking a break from writing up a 4000 word essay on Roman military tombstones due in in two weeks. As well as the epigraphy and inconography of death in the Roman world my main research interest is the Hadrianic frontier - i excavated at Vindolanda in the summer and am doing so again in Easter, Roman Britain, the military, but more importantly Military Religion - which is the focus of my lovely dissertation.

Cant say i've ever done any re-enactment but I have the greatest respect for the guys in the Ermine Street guard, as they do a lot of good work promoting Roman-ness across Britain.

Love Rome. Love Roman Army. Want to chat about it.

thats about all.

invictus.

We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Hello all. My name is Joseph Augustus Clark, whence Iosephus Augustus. I live in Apple Valley, California, (USA) which is located in the Mohave Desert about halfway between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Nevada. I am a retired college administrator. I took a course in Roman history back in 1968 and have been interested in the subject off and on since. I just started reading the Simon Scarrow Roman Army series and that has rekindled my interest in this subject. I am neither an reenactor nor an academic. I look forward to becoming an active participant in this very interesting forum. Thank you.

Hello everyone!

My name is Karsten and I live near Kiel, the capital of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Back in school, Latin was my second foreign language (after English), and after two visits to Rome I positively love the Roman culture and history.

I have to admit, that I am rather a LARP-addict, than a true re-enactor, but my group is constantly trying to keep up historically correct gear and outfit - well except for the rubber swords and shields. In our legion, I am a simple legionnaire called Furius Valerius Viridis.

And, yes, we are trying to shoot a more fierce looking picture of me...

Again, greetings to everyone. Big Grin

I came across these boards based on recommendation and have been a lurker for months. Registered yesterday to find out I couldn't post, due to the forum upgrade. Interested in discussions about East Romans with like-minded individuals.

Ciao!

I'm Dan -- no screen name yet -- from Bucks County, Pennsylvania. I've minored in history and still read it sporadically in my spare time. At the moment I'm mainly interested in Greece and Rome's "pants-wearing barbarian" colleagues, and I'm extremely excited about the upcoming Marathon anniversary. Also love Bronze Age prehistory of all regions. Don't know much about any one area.

Agelong lurker, and very happy to finally join the board!

Greetings,

I'm new here so I thought I'd post an introduction then lurk for awhile. I'm from western New York and have had a long simmering interest in the ancient world and it's material culture. I'll not likely get into reenacting again having spent the last ten years in American Civil War reenacting. The urge to 'dress the part' is pretty much spent here. Nonetheless, I'd like to learn more about the periods dicussed here. So if nobody minds I'll just "sit at the back and not get in anyone's way"

Hello from Louisville, Kentucky, my name is Tim. I've been into world history since I attended Milligan College quite a few years ago now. I've lately been into ancient Chinese history - Han Dynasty - but I was inspired to a more in depth look at Rome by a friend of mine. I'm most interested in early Rome and the Republic era, but there's so much to learn I'm sure I'll be all over place and time here eventually. I've got two history books on the way so I can quit relying exclusively on Wikipedia for information. Not that I don't respect that resource. Having books is cool.

Hello,

my name is Gregor and having visited RAT for quite some time now I decided to join up rather than keep an lurking in the shadows. I'm actually into Germanic Reenactment of the 1st century AD but am also becoming increasingly interested in the Late Roman Army of the 4th century.
I think I have been a "Roman Addict" ever since my parents gave me my first history book at the age of 9. Smile

I am looking for a lot of fun and some interesting discussions and new information here on RAT.

Greetings to everyone,
Hraban
