I'm italian, live in Augusta Taurinorum (nowadays Turin), roman history has always been my passion, and is also my job, since I teach classics in high-school and write things about classical world. I've got increasingly interested in ancient warfare history and reenacting, and I'm here to discuss topics of common interest.

Greetings, Luke Ueda-Sarson here; I've finally figured out how to subscribe to RAT, so here I am! I've never subscribed to a discussion forum before (my internet social experience is still firmly stuck back in the 90s with e-mail lists...) so this will be something of a learning experience for me. Can't figure out how to add a signature, for example.

Anyway, I'm an academic, but only an amateur historian. I have a website dedicated to the shield pattens of the so-called "notitia dignitatum" that some of you may be aware of (can you post links here using html tags?). I'm a two fingered typist, so expect plenty of typos...

I was first exposed to Roman military history (beynd Airfix figures in the 70s when I was a kid) by Peter Connolly's "Hannibal and the Enemies of Rome", which my father, an art teacher, had bought as reference material for his art classes, along with "The Greek Armies". So my interest goes back most of my life.

Hi, I'm Johannes Sanguinarius. I live in the USA. I've had an interest in history,especially ancient history, as far back as I can remember. That's a mighty long time! Does anyone remember the "Classics Illustrated" series of comic books? Their version of Caesar's "Gallic War" helped to spark my interest in Roman history along with all those Italian sword and sandals films as well as "Cleopatra" and "The Fall of the Roman Empire" ,"The Robe", "Demetrius and the Gladiators" etc... I read an abridged version of Gibbon in high school and that started my over 40 year love affair with Late Roman history.  I'm an amateur scholar and am widely read in English but ,alas, have no Latin , Greek, French, or German.I've lurked on this and the old forum off and on for a number of years. Thanks to the holidays I've been filled with good will toward men and have decided to introduce myself and participate in the discussions

I'm a miniature war gamer and collector with an enormous number of Romans, Franks, Goths, Huns, Saxons, Picts,and Arthurians. Most of them are unpainted as most of my fellow miniature gamers will sympathize. I've been pondering yet another new project, The Sassanids.

Just a quick hello to everyone from my home town here in Sunny (Wet) Somerset. I have finally taken the plunge and joined the forum, I have been interested in the Roman Army ever since I was a young lad. I found a few Roman artefacts when I was a child and I have had an interest ever since. I have been very fortunate in that I have managed to travel the length and breadth of Britain visiting Roman Military sites and a few years ago I managed to get myself over to Rome. I am looking forward to learning from everyone on the forum and hopefully I will be able to share some of my knowledge as well.

Hello all,

I am Pavel, from Czech republic. I've studied archaeology for many years, but now unfortunately have to make living by different means... but the passion for history is still there
I am in reenactment for many year, recreating especially Thirty Years war, Cossacks from Khmelnytsky Uprising and bit of First world war (Austro-Hungarian army). But many years ago I've been trying to get my kit for late roman, and now, after many years, I have return to that, now with much more experience, skills and knowledge. So hopefully I will get my kit on very soon and I will join the ranks of late romans here

I'm also a new member and I spent a few years as an archaeology student, I studied at Diploma level but being a student didn't pay my bills. I keep up with the latest archaeological finds via the internet. Roman Military history is something that I really enjoy learning about.

Hello everyone.

I joined the forum yesterday and thought I'd introduce myself. Greetings!

I am a lifelong studier of history (it was my specialist subject when I appeared on Eggheads a few years ago) and I have been particularly interested in Ancient Rome ever since reading the Asterix books as a child! I am also a relatively proficient artist (my degree was in animation), and I particularly enjoy drawing Roman-based pictures, though my style is not as beautiful as the meticulous paintings of some historical artists I've seen. It is more 'cartoony', along the lines of a Disney cartoon crossed with the Alix comics. One thing I always strive for is accuracy, however; one of the reasons I decided to join the forum.

I look forward to many discussions to come with you all.

As a caveat, I have seen it mentioned that one must have one's name in one's signature. I have attempted to do this but have been unable to locate where it is done. Am I being stupid or is my lack of knowledge about all things IT rearing it's head again? If someone could tell me how to edit my signature I will happily add my name.
