Cassiodorus
#1
There is an often-quoted remark that Cassiodorus was like a man standing at the gate of a city, who gave everyone passing from Antiquity to the Middle Ages something to read for on the road. It is a quote from a famous historian - not Gibbon (I checked that) but someone from his league. Does anyone know? The image is so beautiful.
