Came across this title on pre-order at Amazon, Decorated Roman Armour: From The Ages Of The Kings To The Death of Justinian The Great. SO no Arms and Armour Vol. II yet...

Anyone familiar with the illustrator's work?

Cant say but I would say the image on the cover appears to be closely based on Markus Junkelmann as he appears in his book "Reiter wie Statuen aus Erz" with some slight variation....

Didn't mean to suggest that he's the illustrator, but someone illustrated it and it looks better tham Raffaele Ruggeri's Osprey plates. Thanks for the info about Andrey Negin.

I have yet to see the level of picture plagiarism in a Raffaele d'Amato (co-)authored title as in An Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Uniforms of the Roman World. Almost a year to publication, so I'll wait for previews.

Refering to Junklemanns book:
Not sure what you mean there? it appears to be a trick of the light(or photography, your unlikely to see the original colour unless its with MK1 eyeball, somthing that should always be remembered when viewing images with no control), in other photos in the book it seems to be a dark to medium red(sort of burgundy but redder) with blue bands as decoration, in other pics he wears a complete yellow outfit, the book includes mostly photos of originals and reconstruction with associated text, but it is well illustrated... as well as some riding about in circles throwing javalins of course....  at the original price of 22€ I'd say it was easily worth it... the text is in german though so it likely only to appeal to german readers...

Having looked again I assume you mean the illustration on "Decorated Roman Armour" in this case I would say I dont consider it a problem....
