Ina Isings deceased
15-2-1919 - 3-9-2018
Yesterday we received the very sad news that em. prof. dr. Ina Isings passed away at the age of 99 on Monday morning. Her death is a great loss for Dutch archaeology. Ina Isings was the founding mother of research into Roman glass. The typology from her 1957 dissertation, Roman Glass From Dated Finds, is still being used internationally. She became one of the first female lecturers and later professor in Provincial Roman archaeology at the University of Utrecht.
Beside her work there, Ina Isings also served for decades as curator of the PUG-collection. She continued doing research into the objects of the PUG-collection until long after her retirement. Most of all we will remember her as a strong, always cheerful and optimistic woman who was still interested in the latest archaeological discoveries. She will be missed very much.
