There's a new exhibition on the Roman army (L'armée de Rome, la puissance et la gloire) at Arles (France) if anybody is passing nearby.

Looks good. Although there are a few very common modern commercial repro pieces in the 'late Roman' section, by the looks of it!

And what's going on with this shield design, does anyone know? Doesn't look very... Roman?

I think its based on Vindonissa stitching marks on a leather cover for a shield.
